Recently, Adam has concentrated on sculpting animals in the garden or surrounding countryside, in particular native birds which he captures like no one else. He finds boundless interest in the humble sparrow, robin, or long tailed tit and these are some of his liveliest and most endearing works to date.
Born in 1970, Adam Binder grew up on a farm in the Cotswolds where he still lives today. His childhood experiences of the natural world have been a sustaining inspiration for his work as a wildlife sculptor. Having attended a foundation course at Cheltenham Art School, he travelled extensively in Africa drawing and studying wildlife. ‘For me, nature and sculpture are the perfect marriage. I see repetition in form, line, mass and detail throughout the natural world, sculpted over time but in perfect harmony.’
Recognised as one of the UK’s leading wildlife sculptors, Adam’s work is defined by his fluid, linear style and the characterisation of his subjects combined with his earthy rich patinas. He has an acute sense of observation, and his work is imbued with sympathy and understanding of his subjects. He is a passionate supporter of endangered species and wild-life conservation. His twelve-foot polar bear, Boris, was installed in Sloane Square in 2013 drawing attention to the animal’s plight.
He is a past winner of the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist Award, and a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists. His work has an international following and has been shown and collected worldwide.
