Jane Shaw completed a degree in History of Art at Manchester University, spending her early career with a London firm of Fine Art Valuers before setting up her own recruitment company. On moving to Dorset in 2013, Jane revived her love of sculpture.
Jane’s dynamic sculptures are inspired by her life-long interest in animals and the outdoors. She works fluidly, using strong gestural strokes, to capture the energy of her subject matter. Her expressive, sinuous sculptures have a fluid, vacillating texture. This fluent surface highlight’s the animal’s animated muscles, perfectly representing a body in motion. Often working directly from life, Jane produces bronzes for both inside the home as well as large-scale garden pieces.
Jane was awarded first prize at the Bath and West Show two years in a row. Alongside her own practice, she set up a local art-project to help displaced, isolated, and disabled members of her community. Jane exhibits successfully in London and across the UK.
